IT’S OK TO STAND OUT IN THE CROWD
If everyone were the same, life would be bland. Unfortunately, many individuals feel an innate need to blend into their environments. Whether at work, church, or community gatherings, individuals commonly avoid drawing attention to themselves. However, this is contrary to the behavior expected of a leader. Leaders usually stand out from the crowd, and great leaders are often applauded and heralded for their individualism. Look at leaders, such as the late Steve Jobs or Sir Richard Branson. Despite the fact that both have been criticized for their eccentric natures there is no doubt that this very nature has attributed to their past success. Standing out is an area in which minority leaders have an edge, we are already distinct due to our diversity. Don’t be afraid to stand out from the crowd and utilize your diversity to bring a different leadership perspective to an organization. You and your organization will be pleasantly surprised with the results!
